TNPSC Group II and IIA Recruitment 2026

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission has issued Advertisement No. 740 and Notification No. 07/2026 dated 11.08.2026 for direct recruitment through the Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II and IIA Services).

Vacancies

A total of 780 vacancies are notified: 41 vacancies under Group II Services and 739 vacancies under Group IIA Services.

Important Dates

• Notification Date: 11.08.2026
• Last Date for Online Application: 09.09.2026 at 11.59 P.M.
• Application Correction Window: 13.09.2026 at 12.01 A.M. to 15.09.2026 at 11.59 P.M.
• Preliminary Examination: 01.11.2026 from 09.30 A.M. to 12.30 P.M.
• Main Examination: Will be announced later at the time of declaration of Preliminary Examination results.

Eligibility

Candidates must possess the educational and technical qualifications prescribed for the respective post on the date of notification. Candidates should also possess adequate knowledge in Tamil on the date of notification.

Age Limit

Age limits vary by post and community. For Others category, several posts have a maximum age of 32 years. Certain posts have different minimum ages or specific concessions. For SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM) and BCM categories, several posts have no maximum age limit subject to the 60-year rule specified in the notification.

Selection Process

The examination consists of a common Preliminary Examination followed by separate Main Examinations for Group II and Group IIA Services. The Preliminary Examination is only a screening test and its marks are not counted for final merit. Candidates proceed through certificate verification and counselling as applicable. Final ranking is prepared on the basis of Paper II marks in the Main Examination.

Examination Pattern

The Preliminary Examination is a single paper of 200 questions and 300 marks, conducted for three hours in OMR objective format. It consists of General Studies, Aptitude and Mental Ability, and General Tamil or General English.

For Group II Main Examination, Paper I is the Tamil Eligibility Test for 100 marks and Paper II is General Studies for 300 marks. Paper I is qualifying and Paper II determines ranking.

For Group IIA Main Examination, Paper I is the Tamil Eligibility Test for 100 marks and Paper II consists of General Studies and General Intelligence and Reasoning for 300 marks. Paper I is qualifying and Paper II determines ranking.

How to Apply

1. Visit the TNPSC examination website at https://www.tnpscexams.in.
2. Complete One Time Registration if not already registered.
3. Log in and select the Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II and IIA Services) notification.
4. Enter the required personal, educational, community and other details.
5. Upload the photograph, signature and supporting documents wherever required.
6. Pay the applicable examination fee online.
7. Review the application carefully.
8. Submit the online application before 09.09.2026 at 11.59 P.M.
9. If required, use the Application Correction Window between 13.09.2026 and 15.09.2026.

Application Fee

• Preliminary Examination Fee: Rs.100.
• Main Examination Fee: Rs.150 for candidates shortlisted for one service group.
• Main Examination Fee: Rs.300 for candidates shortlisted for both Group II Services and Group IIA Services.
• Eligible special categories can claim fee exemption according to the notification.
• One Time Registration fee: Rs.150; successful OTR is valid for five years.
• Fee payment is through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI.
• Demand Draft and Postal Order are not accepted.

Important Notes

The notification states that no maximum age means the candidate should not have completed 60 years of age as on 01.07.2026 or at the time of selection/appointment. The Preliminary Examination is only a screening test and Preliminary marks are not counted for final merit. Final ranking is based on Paper II of the relevant Main Examination.
