ICMR NIE Scientist Recruitment 2026

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has released Advertisement No. ICMR/NIE/01/2026-RPCell for recruitment to 8 scientific positions at the National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), Chennai.

The recruitment is under direct recruitment for regular scientific positions with all-India transfer liability under the Council.

Vacancy Details

Educational Qualification and Experience

Scientist-D (Medical)

• Essential qualification: MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI/NMC.
• Essential experience: 8 years.
• Desirable: MD/MS, MPH or PhD in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences.

Scientist-D (Non-Medical)

• Essential qualification: Master's degree in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences OR Pharm-D recognised by UGC/PCI.
• Essential experience: 8 years.
• Desirable: PhD in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences.

Scientist-C (Medical)

• Essential qualification: MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI/NMC.
• Essential experience: 4 years.
• Desirable: MD/MS, MPH or PhD in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences.

Scientist-C (Medical - Microbiology)

• Essential qualification: MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI/NMC.
• Essential experience: 4 years.
• Relevant research experience in Microbiology, Immunology, Immunogenetics, Molecular Biology or Next Generation Sequencing is desirable.

Scientist-B (Medical)

• Essential qualification: MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI/NMC.
• Relevant research and development experience in Epidemiology/Public Health is desirable.

Scientist-B (Non-Medical - Disease Modelling)

• Essential qualification: Master's degree in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences OR Pharm-D recognised by UGC/PCI.
• Relevant research and development experience in infectious disease modelling is desirable.

Scientist-B (Veterinary)

• Essential qualification: B.V.Sc. & AH degree recognised by VCI.
• Relevant research and development experience in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health is desirable.

Age Limit

Government of India age-relaxation rules apply. Exceptional relaxation may be considered with approval of the Director General, ICMR.

Salary Details

Application Fee

• General/OBC: Rs. 1,500.
• SC/ST: Exempted.
• Women: Exempted.
• PwBD: Exempted.
• EWS: Exempted.

Selection Procedure

• Initial shortlisting based on essential eligibility requirements.
• Computer Based Test (MCQ), interview or both, as decided by ICMR.
• The Computer Based Test will assess understanding of research methods and will be qualifying in nature.
• Minimum qualifying requirement for the Computer Based Test is 75 percentile.
• Further shortlisting may be conducted if the number of eligible applicants is high.

• Educational qualification certificates from Matriculation onwards.
• Detailed mark sheets of qualifying courses.
• Date-of-birth proof.
• Category certificate, if applicable.
• Experience certificates.
• Photograph and signature.
• Relevant specialisation and professional registration documents, wherever applicable.
• No Objection Certificate (NOC) for eligible candidates working in Government departments, PSUs or Government-funded research agencies, as prescribed in the notification.
